When most people think of blind or deaf celebrities, they immediately think of Stevie Wonder or Marlee Matlin. But in reality, there are so many more talented entertainers who are sensory challenged and continue to create music, film and art that moves and inspires people worldwide.
1. Ray Charles
Legendary American singer/songwriter/musician Ray Charles was born with sight but lost his sight completely by the age of seven. Frank Sinatra even called Charles “The only true genius in show business.” He’s most famous for Georgia on My Mind, What’d I Say, and Unchain My Heart.
2. Jose Feliciano
Musician and singer Jose Feliciano was born blind. It didn’t stop him from amassing chart-topping hits that included Feliz Navidad and a unique cover version of The Doors’ Light My Fire.
3. Diane Schuur
American jazz vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur was born prematurely and weighed less than three pounds. Complications led to infant blindness. She has performed with the likes of Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra and at concerts at Carnegie Hall and the White House.
