The 90th Academy Awards took place Sunday, March 4 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. It was the second year that Jimmy Kimmel played host for Hollywood’s most important event. The opening was presented in the style of a 1920s black-and-white newsreel in an homage to the 90-year history of the event.
The Oscar stage was framed with a glittery geode-like border that changed colors throughout the night, and the stage itself was decorated with millions of Swarovski crystals in the form of chandeliers, crystallized Oscar silhouettes and shimmering, hanging draperies.
Kimmel joked, “For all those who say we’re all a bunch of out-of-touch Hollywood elites, I’ll have you know each of the 45 million Swarovski crystals on stage tonight represents humility.”
