Being a freelancer is one of the coolest jobs you could imagine. You can work from anywhere, your work load is up to you, and you have the benefit of setting your own schedule. But the down side to being your own boss is that you’re your own boss. You have to manage your costs, balance that against your income, and file your own taxes.
No one likes taxes, even when they’re relatively simple and straight forward. And any freelancer can tell you that their taxes definitely aren’t simple and straight forward.
While many of your clients might send you tax filing forms, some won’t. Especially if you only did a little bit of work for them. So it’s up to you to keep track of how much you were paid by what party and total it all up.
